Summary

Remarks

Most research into motivation has been conducted in western cultural contexts. In East Asia, however, it may be necessary to adapt language acquisition theory by considering the learners in their own cultural settings. This article examines some of the research in this area and briefly contrasts western teaching practices with Asian learning styles.
