Results:
Our preliminary analyses reveal that 1) simultaneous bilinguals and monolingual children prefer Indefinite articles where successive bilinguals prefer definite articles + noun to introduce a referent.
2) All three groups show comparable use of referring expressions to re-introduce a topic with a definite article+ noun 3) Both types of bilinguals used more definite articles than pronouns to maintain the topic.
From the Results:
We learn that successive bilinguals tend to use expressions that assume more shared understanding than those used by monolinguals and simultaneous bilinguals which resemble the characteristics of referring expressions among younger monolingual children. and indicates that the onset of the acquisition can have impact on the development of referential strategies in bilingual children in this particular context.
