Research Paper (Scientific Journal)
This study analyzes the potential of "Michi-no-Eki" (roadside stations) as a regional revitalization project launched by Sekisui House Co., Ltd. and Marriott International in 2020. The aim of the project is consistent with the government's tourism strategies such as dispersing inbound tourists to regional areas and developing tourism activities and points of interest in rural areas. In this paper, we conducted interviews with the project director of Sekisui House Co., Ltd. and hotel managers of Fairfield hotels by Marriott in order to understand the actual situation of the project. In addition, we conducted a questionnaire survey to 28 roadside stations adjacent to Fairfield properties and interviews with some hotel managers in order to investigate how the opening of hotels had affected the business of near-by roadside stations.
