Research of a summary

Today, "theater" is considered one of the means of education as "drama education." In May 2010, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) established the "Communication Education Promotion Council" and developed learning programs that use theater to cultivate communication skills, highlighting the effectiveness of acquiring abilities through theater. The close relationship between school education and "theater" can be traced back to Kuniyoshi Obara's introduction of "school drama" into school education, which "brought a fresh breeze into Japanese education" (Kitajima 1977: 13). Therefore, this study revisits "school drama" and reexamines Obara's theory of school drama to clarify its educational significance.
