ガラパゴス諸島に自生する野生種トマトの中には，花柄に決して脱離することのない，離層様の細胞を形成する系統がある．そこで，その細胞の分化，形成過程を解剖学的に調べた結果，離層様の細胞は一旦は分化するものの，途中で発達を手痛いさせるkとがわかった．これはj-2in 　遺伝子によって支配されていることも判明した
