This study focuses on Community-Based Tourism (CBT), a form of tourism that is widely regarded as contributing to regional development, environmental conservation, and human resource development by utilizing local living environments as tourism resources. Using Tanzania (TZ) as a case study from Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), the research pays particular attention to women, who play an indispensable role in tourism development in developing countries.
The primary objective of this study is to examine the relationship between tourism-led regional development and women's social and economic empowerment, as well as the potential of tourism to promote such empowerment, through an interdisciplinary perspective drawing on development studies, tourism studies, and sociology.
In addition, through field research, the study investigates the approaches currently employed within the tourism sector to support women's empowerment, assessing their uniqueness, applicability, and limitations. By doing so, it seeks to provide practical recommendations for tourism-based development assistance policies that can contribute to regional development and human resource development in Sub-Saharan Africa.
