The ubiquity of online text combined with power of mobile devices are changing the reading experience for second language learners. Digital extensive reading (ER) or reading on a mobile device however, are only emerging areas of research. Presenters from a university in Tokyo will introduce their pilot of X-Reading?, a learning management system (LMS) devoted to ER. The presenters will share pre-pilot data, word per-minute analysis, and post-pilot feedback. Participants in this presentation can expect to learn about the adoption of X-Reading?, reflect on student comments about reading via smartphones, and consider the challenges implementing a mobile ER component.
