Using thematic analysis, this study presented findings from semi-structured post-interviews conducted with all 36 ELFJ-Corpus participants. Results indicated that overall conversation outcomes were positive, though Japanese participants reported mixed satisfaction due to nervousness and linguistic limitations. The speaking task posed greater challenges for Japanese participants, while non-Japanese participants’ experiences varied depending on prior exposure to Japanese culture and other factors. Both groups rated their interlocutors positively overall, highlighting effort, patience, and mutual support. Common difficulties included vocabulary gaps, unclear responses, and reduced fluency, but adaptive strategies such as slower speech and rephrasing helped mitigate such challenges.
