Verbal presentations (general)
The Institute of Technology Cambodia (ITC), Phnom Penh, Cambodia
This presentation focused on the explicit teaching of communication strategies and its effects on students' ability to negotiate meaning during pro-active listening comprehension. The theoretical framework was based on the work of ELF researchers including Wen, Kaur, and Seidlhofer. Transcripts of student dialogues indicated that students were able to use communication strategies during pro-active listening and dialogic speech more effectively after the explicit teaching of communicative strategies. In addition
student survey results showed an overall increase in students' perceived ability to use communication strategies effectively by the end of the project.
