Verbal presentations (general)
The presenters provided an overview of their research project which aims to first identify and then develop a corpus of communication strategies employed by Japanese learners in spoken and written communication during English as a lingua franca (ELF) interactions in various settings, including online communication. From this corpus, ELF-informed teaching and assessment materials will be developed containing the following components: 1) ELF language awareness: introduction to ELF-informed pedagogy; 2) teaching materials to develop CSs in spoken and written ELF communication through: a) implicit learning and b) explicit learning; 3) rubrics to assess spoken and written ELF communication; and 4) integrating ELF-informed pedagogy into a course/program.
