ant caste gene expression For social insects typified by ants and bees, reproductive division of labor by several castes expressing different phenotypes is an important feature. These caste differentiation are caused in response to different environmental factors during development. To understand the mechanism for maintaining insect societies, proximate mechanisms of caste differentiation are investigated in the light of the morphology, histology, developmental biology and molecular biology.
