In this paper, the tourism trends of Unazuki Onsen are considered based on the results of statistical data analysis, questionnaire surveys of tourists, and interview surveys with tourist associations.
With the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen in March 2015, the number of tourists at Unazuki Onsen increased sharply that year. Although the number of tourists decreased the following year, it has remained flat since then. This is because the Unazuki Onsen area has built a stable network with the metropolitan area. However, the off-season in winter is still an issue. The tourists who visited Unazuki Onsen were from neighboring prefectures such as Toyama, Ishikawa, Fukui, Niigata, and Nagano just like before the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen. In addition, from the results of the questionnaire, it can be said that creating and reconstructing the attractiveness of the Unazuki Onsen area is an issue.
In this paper, in order to solve these problems, three recommendations are discussed. Firstly, creating a tourism story that emphasizes the historical connection between Unazuki Onsen and the Kurobe Gorge Railway based on the development of the Kurobe River power supply, and secondly, holding an event that makes effective use of the space in the hot spring town would be helpful. Thirdly, as a measure against the off-season in winter, proposals such as improving the attractiveness of Unazuki Snow Park and creating products to experience the winter life of Unazuki are discussed.
