This paper discusses a questionnaire survey with students about the problems and issues caused by conducting the internship program of the College of Tourism and Hospitality at Tamagawa University online due to the spread of COVID-19. The results will be considered in conjunction with the results of interviews with cooperating companies and local government.
Due to the spread of COVID-19, the field of education at universities is rapidly shifting from face-to-face education to online education from the viewpoint of preventing the spread of infection. The online internships discussed in this paper not only clarified the advantages and disadvantages of conventional internships that specialize in offline work experiences, but also provided an opportunity to create new industry-academia collaboration that can only be obtained online. On the corporate side, we saw the advantage of an online internship leading to new employee education and opportunities for new business creation. On the university side, it led to an increase in the employment awareness of students, an increase in the desire for work experience, and an increase in the awareness of visiting employment destinations.
In addition, it led to the discovery of new possibilities in tourism education. On the other hand, an online-only internship will strengthen the event-like element for students and will be an extension of regular lessons, so it is an opportunity to practice and verify the plan proposed by the student. The fact that creativity is indispensable for enhancing the educational effect of online internships has become clear.
In this paper, in order to solve these problems, firstly, we suggest an O2O (Online to Offline) education curriculum creation for post-corona, and secondly, we propose about new industry-academia collaboration in career education for post-corona era.
