This paper aims to analyze whether the location shooting efforts in the COVID-19 are contributing to regional revitalization, regional promotion, and tourism promotion through an interview survey with the Japan Film Commission (JFC) and the Location Tourism Council. In addition, the interview results are analyzed with location support organizations in Chofu City, Komae City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Toyama Prefecture, and Kitakyushu City, all places which accept location shooting. Finally, the effects and problems of location shooting will be discussed.
Location shooting in areas reopened during the COVID-19 tended to be carried out carried out in the vicinity of local areas where dramas have a proven track record, and travel and information programs tend to be carried out with local governments which are positively accepted by film companies. In addition, location shooting has become a new source of income for accommodation facilities, restaurants, and streaming services, which continue to grow due to demand for staying at home. In addition, spending is increasing in location shooting regions. It was also found that interest in “location tourism” as a tourism target is increasing for after COVID-19.
Furthermore, location support organizations in the local governments that have built networks with various stakeholders such as actors, directors, and residents have been working on Tourism and Community Design during the COVID-19. The construction of networks with various stakeholders by local location support organizations has the potential to contribute to tourism and town development in the future.
