A Study on the Effective Teaching Materials for Science for the Inquiry-Based Learning of the Elementary School Students through Cross-Curricular Studies

The class of “the period for integrated study” of the elementary school has been promoting the Inquiry-Based Learning since 2020 for the purpose of developing the children’s capacity and skill for a problem solution so that they can set their problems, collect the information and analyze it by themselves as the improvement of science and mathematics education. This study dealt with “a function of rubber” targeting at third graders as one of the units of the science, focused on fostering their curiosity about things and willingness to learn through the production of toys using local toys as teaching materials, and carried out the Inquiry-Based Learning. As a result, it was found that the children could set their problems through the operation check of the teaching materials and confirm the example to arrive at the solution while repeating trial and error for the problem solution without giving it up till the last in cooperation with their friends.
