Summary

Japanese kanji have multiple readings. In classical education, " koui (更衣)" tends to be first learned and understood by students as the wife of the emperor. On the other hand, "koromogahe" (koromogae), which means to change clothes according to the season, is also expressed by the same kanji, and there is a collection of poems titled "Saibara" that flourished in the Heian period (794-1185) that uses this title. The lyrics of this song, with its worldview of seeking a beloved partner, is fascinating, but it is rarely used as a teaching tool in the classroom. Unlike the status system and annual events, how did people of the past express their love for each other by exchanging clothes? How can they be used as effective teaching materials in terms of education? Comparing with waka poetry, it is thought that there is knowledge and adapted lyrics by Heian courtesans in them.
