Among students at a university in Tokyo there is acceptance of learning which is informed by English as a lingua franca (ELF). In order to highlight differences between traditional EFL approaches, and ELF-aware approaches to teaching and learning, the presenter will use data collected in continuing surveys of more than 2000 students at the Center For English as a lingua franca at the university. Survey themes include language ownership, and conformity to native language norms.
