Summary

The purpose of this study was to develop a method for improving elementary school physical education classes based on assessment for learning.
Chapter 1, I examined the cumulative guidance records from 1948 to 2019. As a result, we clarified the underlying directivity of assessment and how to conduct physical education assessment. In Chapter 2, I developed an ‘integration of teaching and assessment for learning’ class that enhanced thinking and judgment and verified its effectiveness. In Chapter 3, I explored the development and its effect on teaching programs unfolding the ‘integration of teaching and assessment.’ The novelty of this research was that by focusing on assessment for learning, it developed a method for improving lessons in elementary school physical education and clarified its effectiveness from the perspective of the teaching process and learning outcomes. In addition, this study is considered to have academic significance in that it has demonstrated the importance of assessment for learning and its strategies to improve physical education classes at an academic research level.
