This paper describes the design rationale and the result of preliminary evaluation of "XingBoard": a tablet-based CSCL system that supports bi-directional transition between personal work and collective work. For this purpose, this system has assembling function that forms composite work space comprised of connected plural tablets and allows users to move post-it like idea cards from one terminal to other.
