The new course of study has enabled public elementary schools in Japan to offer English related activities. Unfortunately, teaching materials developed for Assistant Language Teachers or Native English Speakers have often been adopted without careful examination of their contents. Consequently, it tends to present, portray, and reinforce the mainstream and dominant (European-American) cultures in English speaking countries, ignoring the cultural diversity.
