Note

. This article constitutes an attempt to take an overview perspective towards thinking about English as a subject to be taught, and to examine some teaching principles and practices which might be compatible with it. In doing so, a broader context is proposed for teacher thinking than conceptual distinctions between ELF and EFL, or distinctions between native and non- native speakers. The focus from an overview perspective is one of unity rather than distinction.
