Summary

Although generative AI has been noted for its strong affinity with historical studies and history education, the accumulation of research and practical implementation remains insufficient compared with fields such as English language education. This paper examines the “Historical Figure Simulator” designed by the authors in light of both the strengths and limitations of generative AI. It explores its potential to promote concept formation and critical thinking, as well as to realize personalized learning tailored to individual learners. In addition, the study proposes a shift in instructional design—from a Teaching-centered approach toward one emphasizing Coaching and Facilitation as forms of guided support.
